HP Pavillion webcam fix

I have a brand new HP Pavillion dv9310us laptop with Vista installed. The webcam that comes built in has issues with the HP drivers. Well mine finally stopped working. I did a Google search and came across a very informative and well explained solution here . If you have these issues you should try it out also. Great job Dylan!

-----------------------------------------------

WEBCAM PROBLEM SOLVED!! (fingers crossed, here's to hoping...)

I think I solved the webcam problem! I'm still being very, very wary because of how maddening this problem has been. I've now tried my webcam in six different programs, even including YouTube's "quick capture" mode where you can capture video right through the Flash plugin in your browser. I'm very interested to hear what success others have with this (if any). Man, it's so nice to actually be able to USE my webcam now.

Want to know what worked for me? Acer drivers.

I found this driver: Acer Extensa 5210 Chicony Webcam Driver 5.7

(I have also mirrored the file here.)

Here are the exact steps I took.

1. Downloaded the file.
2. Unzipped it to a folder on my desktop.
3. Ran the "Setup.exe" file in the folder that got unzipped.
4. Went through the installer until it got to the end and then let it restart my computer.
5. Waited for my computer to restart.
6. It popped up something saying it was installing the drivers for my webcam. Waited until it was done.
7. Opened the Control Panel.
8. Opened the Device Manager.
9. Find my webcam under "Imaging Devices". I noticed it was listed as "HP Pavilion Webcam" despite having just installed the Acer drivers.
10. Right-clicked on my webcam and chose "Update Driver Software..."
11. Chose "Browse my computer for driver software"
12. Chose "Let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer"
13. Unchecked the "Show compatible hardware" checkbox.
14. Scrolled down to the Chicony manufacturer.
15. Chose the "Acer Crystal Eye webcam.
16. Told it to install anyway when it asked me a question about installing that driver.
17. Waited for the driver to be installed.
18. Noted that my webcam was now listed as an Acer Crystal Eye webcam in Device Manager.

And that was it. It appears to work totally fine now! Again, I have my fingers crossed that it won't suddenly break again, but so far so good.

Forgot to note: This is on a DV6000T running Windows Vista 32-Bit Home Premium.

A whole day of monkeying around with my webcam. Still no problems. It works flawlessly in every program I've tried. Messenger, muvee AutoProducer, Dorgem, Sony Vegas Video, YouTube, and so forth. All work fine.

I was having troubles too with my HP Pavilion webcam, I always had to disable it first, restart computer and then enable it again. Waste of time. Anyway installed Acer driver per your clear instructions and seems to be working! Thanks!!!

Thanks a lot, it worked great on a Pavillion dv2325la, using Latinamerican spanish Vista!

It worked on a HP Pavillion Entertainment PC model TX1320us Tablet PC.

Thank you very, very much!

Note: Follow the steps as described, do not do shortcuts.

I had the same problem and now everything works fine thanks to you!! I'm going to translate this in italian (crediting you of course!) because a lot of italian people had the same problem and no one knows what to do. I hope it's not a problem :)

At first this procedure didn't work. Just made the blue LED ligt up with no image on both Yahoo and Quickplay webcam.

I really didn't know how it happened but when I made the laptop "reactivate" from a sleep mode the webcam finally worked.

It seems that I have to enter sleep mode first and then reactivate again before I can make the my face appear on the webcam.

Still, I'm quite satisfied with this setup. It's better than having no webcam at all.

Many thanks for this solution!!! My HP laptop is DV2501TX.

Thank you very much for this solution! I have a Pavillion dv9000, and my webcam worked when I first booted, but once the laptop slept or hibernated, it would no longer recognize the cam. There are at least 50 threads on the HP site and others with problems like this but no solutions. This is great. Thanks again.

I just tried this with a dv2000. It worked great! I had one slight variation though. My webcam was showing up in the device manager under two different names: "HP Pavilion Webcam" (with warning icon) and "HP Webcam". I had to select the "HP Webcam" to do the update and I disabled the other. Thanks again!

I tried doing this. Still camera not working. Does anyone have an idea of the location of the this driver? is it an INF file?

Sample location: C:\Windows\System32\DriverStore\FileRepository\

I have the same problem with my MOGO mouse. and i updated device driver by manually locating the correct inf file.

That's great...thanks so much for the fix. HP support wanted me to rebuild it, so this was great. For me, I needed to install that driver, then reboot, update the driver from the web...then it worked.

Thanks,

Official driver: http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/genericSoftwareDownloadIndex?softwareitem=ob-47244-1&cc=us&lc=en&dlc=en

Future versions don't work for me.

doesnt work with windows 7 64 bit

It didn't work with my dv2000 either, I have Vista 64-bit, which might be the problem, as I see it's working for some dv2000 machines, not for others.

Thanks anyway, it was worth a shot.

I tried this with my dv2000 and it didn't work for me either, maybe because I use 64-bit? I see it's working for some and not others, so I wonder if that's a factor.

Thanks anyway, it was worth a try.

That HP webcam driver w/firmware update for Windows Vista seemed to be a fix for my Windows 7 Professional O/S! I've been searching for months for a fix. Finally!!

Oh, forgot to say my laptop is a DV7T-3000.

All the text is in white font when the setup runs. I can't see anything except Accept and Decline buttons and a radio button. Text? Invisible. So I clicked Accept button anyway. Then the downloaded files fails with a connection error. There are no problems with my internet connection or my computer. Bad UI.
