And the wait begins.....

Well, another year, another early exit for the Yankees. So now a lot of questions begin to surface:

  • Will Joe Torre return for another season, or has Steinbrenner had enough? I think Joe will be back again, but if not I think Tony LaRussa or Don Mattingly will take the role.
  • Will Posada and Rivera be re-signed and stay with the team? I think they both will be.
  • Will Damon and Abreau resign? I don't think they both will be back, but I am not sure which will stay or go. Cashman wants to shrink the payroll. I like the team more homegrown anyways. Melky needs to play every day.
  • Will A-Rod stay? I think he absolutely will, and they need him. The new stadium opens soon and they need him to fill the seats. The team never reached 4 million in attendance before he got there, and they have every year since. Plus, at 32, he is already the best player ever and in 6 years will own the all-time homerun record and likely end up with over 850.
  • What will the rotation be like? Andy Pettite has an option that i think he will certainly use to stay with the team. Hughes, Wang, Kennedy and Pettite and depending on what Joba wants to do, he could be there too. Although having him set up Rivera fulltime would make that the dangerous duo since Rivera setup for Wettland.
A lot of changes to this team need to be made to keep it young and fresh and on fire. Don't sign Clemens, trade Giambi, let the kids do their thing. Sure it hurts that they collapsed after how far they came back (last place in the AL in May to 3rd best in the league), but I don't see a season as a failure if they don't get a ring. It's just nice when they do.
